PB’S for Para Powerlifters in the Goldcoast

Team Wales had three para powerlifters competing at the Commonwealth Games in the Goldcoast, all going into the event with good final preparations the team were ready to get lifting.

In the Men’s lightweight category, Nathan Stephens did a great job securing his opening bench of 133kg, his second attempt of 138kg was ruled out however Nathan took a 2kg increase to 140kg for a successful third attempt, giving him a 20kg personal best from his previous international and finished in 10th place.

Sean Gaffney competed in the Men’s heavyweight category but unfortunately due to a picking up a shoulder injury in the final stages of preparation, Sean was unable to achieve a lift and is now looking forward to getting fit and prepare for his next competition.

In the Women’s heavyweight category Nerys Pearce produced a competition personal best with her opening attempt of 75kg but was unlucky with two very close calls at 80kg but still finished an impressive 4th place in her group.
