Please note that for Coaching Weightlifting L1 & L2 courses, access to the E-learning platform is granted 2 weeks before a course start date, this is to be completed prior to the start of a course. Entry to a course will remain open until a week prior to the course is due to begin, but you must complete the E-learning modules prior to attending the face to face course dates. Access to the E-Learning portal will be sent to you via email by British Weightlifting.

Weightlifting Wales are the lead experts in Olympic Weightlifting and Strength & Conditioning education for anyone who wants to coach Olympic Weightlifting through to those in the fitness industry, who may work within the Strength & Conditioning sector for other sports. We pride ourselves on using highly qualified and experienced tutors within their fields to ensure a positive learning experience that allows learners to complete a course feeling confident in their knowledge and ability. We focus on ensuring a healthy balance of knowledge base learning and practical sessions to gain a complete understanding of the skills and techniques used.
We offer a number of courses and workshops, whether you are starting out in your coaching journey or an experienced coach looking to improve and update your knowledge. We offer a number of courses through our partnership with 1st4Sport, of which courses have been developed by British Weightlifting for Coaching Weightlifting and with the Rugby Football Union for the Strength & Conditioning programme we offer.
Our workshops are fantastic for any level of lifter or coach to improve their technical knowledge, understanding and ability, but are also flexible to be created to meet the specific needs of your club or programme with bespoke workshops also available by contacting our Coach Education Manager

The Courses we offer are the following:

Level 1 Coaching Weightlifting
This course is suitable for individuals that are new to coaching and who may have an interest or background in Olympic Weightlifting. Learners will be introduced to the processes and principles of assisting more experienced coaches in coaching weightlifting to all age groups. They will also gain an understanding of planning, delivering and evaluating their coaching under direct supervision.

Level 2 Coaching Weightlifting
This course is for coaches who have gained experience assisting coaching weightlifting sessions as a level 1 coach. This qualification allows learners to deliver session independently gaining knowledge of planning, deliver and evaluate a series of linked and progressive sessions to a group of weightlifters of beginner to intermediate level. This qualification will also certify candidates to supervise other coaches within a weightlifting environment.

Weightlifting Workshop
In partnership with the Welsh Sports Association, the aim of this workshop is for lifters & coaches to learn, recap and develop their technical skills for lifting. The workshop provides information on safety aspects to consider in a lifting environment yet focus more practically on the coaching points and technical aspects of Olympic Weightlifting. This is a great course for anyone coaching the Olympic lifts to assist other sports or for general training and is also recommended to support personal development in Coaching Weightlifting.

1st4Sport Level 1 Coaching Strength & Conditioning for Sport
An introduction to the principles and practices of coaching safe and effective strength and conditioning activities. Holders of this award are able to then seek employment as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in a club, school or equivalent environment.

1st4Sport Level 2 Coaching Strength & Conditioning for Sport
This Level 2 is designed to provide learners with the level of knowledge needed to build and lead well-constructed strength and conditioning programmes through an understanding of how to plan, conduct and evaluate strength and conditioning sessions. This will enable successful learners to seek employment as a strength and conditioning coach in a number of settings such as a sports club, or with an athlete or team in an educational/youth environment.

1st4Sport Level 3 Coaching Strength & Conditioning for Sport
This Level 3 provides learners aged 18 and over with the advanced level of knowledge needed to deliver a comprehensive strength and conditioning coaching programme, by applying the principles of performance profiling and goal-setting. This will enable them to seek employment as a strength and conditioning coach in a number of settings, which may include a sports club, or with an individual athlete or team.

1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
This qualification is for learners who wish to become exercise and fitness instructors and be able to work in a fitness instructing role in one of the following disciplines: gym-based exercise, exercise to music, water-based exercise or exercise and physical activity for children. The qualification is normally achieved through attendance on a programme of training and the completion of a collection of assessment tasks.

Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing & Personal Training
The aim of the Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training qualification is to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes developing their skills knowledge to pursue a career in personal training.

IPC Introduction to Coaching Para Powerlifting 

The course is 3 full days, of which you will cover the roles and responsibilities of coaching Para Power Athletes including looking at coaching techniques and programming. The requirements to participate in this Coaching Course are simple; candidates must be coaching para powerlifting competitively or have an interest in the sport and you must have good basic English language for reading and writing.
