One of the highest ranked Welsh Female lifters

Welsh youth lifter, Catrin Jones secured a top eight position at the IWF World Youth Championships in Peru.

Catrin made her international debut in Lima following a year of vast improvements with record breaking performances in the 44kg bodyweight class.

Coached by David Jones from Bangor Sport, Catrin lifted a personal best of 120kg, setting new Welsh and British records.

Catrin is a member of the Welsh and British Weightlifting Squad.

Competing in this high performance environment has provided Catrin with a great deal of experience, which will aid her and provide further confidence when competing in future international events” “Although still only a youth lifter, Catrin is one of the highest ranked Welsh Female lifters”

The gold medalist in the 44kg bodyweight class was Chinese athlete Yimei Gao with 155kg lifted, followed by a closely contested battle for silver between Vietnam’s My Phuong Khong (146kg) and Brazil’s Emily Rosa Figueiredo (145kg).
