15 Oct WW Statement on recent changes on the IWF Executive Board
Weightlifting Wales would like to show our strong support of British Weight Lifting in their recent statement condemning the IWF’s executive board decision to remove their Interim President Ursula Papandrea, and their appointment of Interat Yodbangtoey into this role.
As a home nation of British Weight Lifting, WW are not a federation that has the power to vote on IWF matters. However, we feel it is important to stand strongly in solidarity with BWL and the other member federations who have actively condemned the corruption within the IWF that has been exposed and the request that the IWF executive board stand down. We do this in the interest of protecting the future of Weightlifting.
We want to play our part in ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy this sport, free from corruption and with a level playing field for all. Now more than ever, the future and integrity of Weightlifting is under serious threat.
WW stand alongside all other member federations whose values are aligned with those of clean sport, good governance and integrity, who are making a stand to save our sport.
